Who is Steve Brewster? Whether it is my career or my personal life, I truly believe there is nothing more enjoyable than the experience of excellence. Just like a high performance game or sport, the better you are, the more you enjoy it. With my coaching clients, what gets me excited is when I help them to experience excellence. That's what coaching is about -- being your best. Ultimately, coaching is about the inner game. Coaching is about being clear about what your best looks like: clear about your vision, your purpose, what is meaningful. Once you are clear about these things, I can help you get there.
The Early Days As the founding lawyer of a small law firm outside of Boston, I got to see an interesting side of life from my divorce and criminal-law clients. This was where I honed my speaking skills, my ability to question, my listening skills, and the skill of hearing what is not being said. When I told the partners of my firm, Brewster Schofield and Reed, PC, that I was taking a 6-month leave-of-absence to hike the Appalachian Trail, one of them said: "You won't come back." I said: "I know." So after 10 years of being an independent professional, I moved to Aspen, CO and was a ski bum for a winter before attending the National Outdoor Leadership School [NOLS] in Lander, WY, and working for the Colorado Outward Bound School. After being hit by a car going 65mph while riding my bicycle only 15mph, my guiding career unexpectedly ended and I learned to identify myself by who I am, not what I do.
I moved to Seattle to recover, moved to Victoria, BC to get married, and to Nelson, BC where my daughter was born. I have lived in Calgary since 1999, providing consulting, training and coaching for groups in Leadership, PerformanceManagement, and Emotional Intelligence.
I Discovered Coaching My coaching career officially started when someone asked, "What would you do if time and money weren't an issue?" My answer was, "Not this." I knew that it was time to once again fine-tune my pursuit of a path with heart.
Not long after, during a two-day intensive coaches training, I fell in love with coaching. The results have been rewarding, energizing and exciting. It was there that I also made a connection with my first coach. The timing was right and I began working in my new career.
My coaching training has consisted of classes, practice, specialized training, and working with experienced coaches. Most of my efforts the first two years were spent on training, taking classes through the Coachville School of Coaching. In addition, I have been working with my coaches and my clients, which has led to my accreditation as an Associate Certified Coach [ACC] through the International Coach Federation.
For me, acheiving my ACC in not the end of the journey but rather the beginning. My intention is to continue working, studying, training and growing as a Coach and achieve my designation as a Master Certified Coach - consistently delivering masterful coaching to my clients.
I have been coaching since 2003, working with Executives and Business Owners who want more from work and from life: to improve profitability, performance and quality of life. I am a certified Group Coach, , a certified Emotional Intelligence Coach, and an Assistant Community Coach for the Power of Groups community at Coachville. I am a member of the Calgary Association of Professional Coaches, the Human Resources Association of Calgary, and a member in good standing of the Massachusetts, Washington and Federal Bars, including the United States Supreme Court.
My eclectic background and experiences are the foundation of my coaching because they make me who I am. My mission is to provide life-changing and provocative conversations, through masterful coaching experiences, one client at a time. I am a change agent. I hope this site is a useful resource in your quest for excellence! Warm regards,
